| 内容記述 | This paper reports on the 10th Symposium on Multicultural Childcare and Education, held on February 14, 2025, which examined the implementation and significance of a newly introduced pre-school program for children with foreign roots. Oizumi, where over 20% of residents are foreign nationals, has long faced challenges related to the language development and school adaptation of children from immigrant families. Although these children often acquire conversational Japanese naturally in early childhood settings, insufficient support for academic language has contributed to difficulties in learning after entering elementary school. Recognizing the need for early, systematic language and school-readiness support, the authors launched a pre-school program in 2024 targeting foreign parents and their children who were preparing to enter Japanese elementary school. The program, conducted over five sessions, provided parents with information on Japanese school systems, classroom routines, required materials, and key cultural expectations, supported by Portuguese and Spanish interpreters. Children engaged in play-based activities and experienced school materials such as “Randoseru” and caps. While participating families expressed reduced anxiety and increased readiness for school, challenges emerged in reaching families who need support most. The findings highlight the need for strengthened outreach, culturally responsive communication, and community networks to ensure equitable access to early educational support. |
